Closing out my day’s RT blogging with newer stuff and far superior video/audio quality than anything else today. It is, of course, NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series. I’m a huge fan of this series, but somehow managed to miss RT’s performance even though they apparently had Nick Lowe in just prior(!!).

It was a crazy plan: To have contestant Tony Lucca nonironically cover Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time.” Marc Hirsh says, “But what’s weirdly ironic is that it’s this very reluctance to touch it that’s somehow turned ‘…Baby One More Time’ from the wellspring of modern girl-pop into something of a dude-rock standard.” Reblogging for Richard Thompson’s Oops!…I Did It Again.

The Pineapple And The Hare: Can You Answer Two Bizarre State Exam Questions?

A story and two questions on the New York state English exam taken by eighth-graders this week has stumped many — including Jeopardy! star Ken Jennings.

The story — titled The Pineapple and the Hare — was included in a New York Daily News story about the consternation the questions have caused.

“Is this a joke? The story makes no sense whatsoever,” Jennings said in an editorial in the Daily News.

NY1 spoke to students who were amused and confused after reading the story of a hare who was challenged by a pineapple to a foot race. The New York City school chancellor told NY1 that he agreed with his students.

“We expect to see much more rigor and complex reading passages on next year’s tests,” Dennis Walcott said in a statement to NY1. -Eyder Peralta

Her real estate agent mom scrapes together a living in Florida by selling foreclosed properties. Willow found her own niche scavenging abandoned washes, dryers and furniture from her mother’s properties and selling them on Craigslist.
